I have always used social media for fun and to interact with friends but I now see it as more of an opportunity to have a second job as a photographer and to potentially sell prints of my work. I have learned how many tools are out there that I had no idea about and the amount of help there is to increase your social media audience if you want to take the time and effort to do so. There is so much more that goes into a post than most people realize. It comes down to what times of day are the best, what days of the week are the best; there is a science to it in order to receive the best interaction possible.

I feel the tools that were given to us during this class has opened my eyes to an entire new world of how to use social media properly. I have always had my doubts, seeing that social media is such an integral part of everyone's lives now I never really felt I could be someone who would get noticed. After really reviewing the tools and other social media platforms to look into I can see that I can be noticed if I work hard at it and know it will take some time. These businesses created on social media take a lot of research and a lot of effort, it is extremely rare for someone to blow up over night.

It is so important to be as active as possible with your social media accounts or you end up getting lost in the algorithm. This is the one thing I cannot stand about how social media, especially Instagram has changed. Your post can be completely lost and many people miss out on the opportunity to see it, I have learned you have to be super active to keep your posts on the timeline. It is important to be prepared with a variety of photos so I can continue to post daily or twice a day to stay interactive.

I have found a lot of products, people, and inspiration by using social media over the years. I have found that I absolutely love interior design since following quite a few pages that I initially followed for their photography. I feel that photographing for real estate could be a cool opportunity to explore and tie in two of my favorite concepts and create beautiful advertising. I love following other photographers and people who share similar interests to me to see how they shoot their photos and what angles they use etc. It has helped me grow and shown me how to take better pictures which I love.

I have learned that social media is a huge part of business, not just for a photographer, but for any brand out there. It has become the most innovative way to reach out to people on such a broad spectrum. I feel that social media is going to continue to be what we use for business, products, and networking overall. In order to stay relevant and to keep your business in the loop you have to have social media and you have to be able to put a lot of effort to get the best results.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-57437875054985195582020-12-22T16:50:00.004-08:002020-12-22T16:50:51.757-08:00Week 15
For the type of business I have created, I feel that Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn are the best social media platforms overall for my photography business. Instagram is great because it is posting photos and it is a great way to reach out to so many people. I am able to use hash tags as well to get a wider audience and hopefully more followers in the process. I can also look up hash tags similar to mine and connect with other people who are in the industry. There are a lot of ways to ask to be featured on someone else's Instagram page that may have a huge following already. Facebook is great to interact with my local community, and those who are interested in landscape photography in the area. I feel Facebook is pretty word to mouth, so someone in the city I live in could tell others about me and to check out my page and see what they think of my work. It is also a great way to advertise an art/photography show in the community and to be able to reach out to small businesses to feature my photos and create an event of some sort. LinkedIn is a great tool for networking, it can allow me to interact with other people around me to possibly scout models for a shoot, talk to others about photography equipment, or meet with other prospecting photographers and learn from each other. I feel it is a great way to possibly get hired work if someone is looking for a photographer. I am able to showcase what I have done and give out a portfolio to potential people looking for someone.

Instagram is definitely my favorite social media platform to work with. I love being able to edit my photos and watch the interaction I receive after I post something. I typically get positive feedback about my work and it motivates me to go out and take more photos. I also love seeing what other people are doing on the app and I love to get inspired through people I follow as well. I think Instagram is the best for a photographer trying to showcase their work and it really is so fun to work with especially being able to create a visual mood board and watch your photos flow together.

My business should be spending a lot of time on social media because it is a photography page. I should be posting more often than I am to really get serious about it. I feel that you have to be active on your pages in order to stay relevant and to stay on people's algorithms.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-50130878562894882202020-12-22T16:30:00.003-08:002020-12-22T16:30:43.160-08:00Week 14
There are many features a business can use to keep track of how their social media is running. It is important to choose the features that are going to work best for your company, because every company is going to be run differently. I believe in trying out a few different methods to see which ones will stick and which ones may not work out as well. After looking into Google Analytics I found four features that I would try to experiment with for my photography business to see if they will attribute to my success.

Real Time Reporting: I chose real time reporting because I feel this would be a great tool to have to see the interaction on my social media pages at any time in real time. I am someone who likes to figure out what times of the day/days of the week my audience is engaging with my content. This way, I am able to really experiment and see if the times I am choosing to post are correct, or if I am finding out there are other times that are better to engage with my audience. I like that this feature is able to be checked at any time and you can come up with your own predictions on how to proceed further.

Audience Reports: This feature is great for finding out how active your audience actually is with your content, and it can be done based on individuals and not just a wide audience. It is important to keep in contact/network with those who are following your business and are showing interest. This is a great tool to really see what people are the most interactive and who I can possibly reach out to that is not so interactive but can reach out to them in other ways. It is a great way to grow your business further, and appreciate your audience for the ones that are involved the most.

Audience Demographics: I love this feature, I believe it is important to know who your audience is and what their interests are. This could help my business by showing me what my audience has more interest in photography wise and what I can bring to the table if they are interested in a certain landscape, travel destination, etc. I believe my target market would be a wide range of ages and also all genders so this would be an interesting tactic to see who is showing interest in my work!

Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-64006124191793425212020-11-26T13:38:00.003-08:002020-11-26T13:38:55.962-08:00Week 13 Part A
Advertising on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlets has always fascinated me. It is almost as if they know exactly what I am looking for, or something I have talked about. I find the ads on Instagram especially to be spot on to the things I am interested in purchasing. I notice they are always pushing products that will give you a direct link to their Instagram page. Once you "save" or click on their Instagram profile it seems more and more similar ads start to pop up. For example, if I am interested in a skin care product for acne all of the sudden there are several ads on my timeline showing me these new innovative acne products that are apparently the best out there. Or they will show me ads showing me a face wash, or a make up brush, or really anything relative to the one image I saved to look at later on.

The imagery used is usually effective, and I have talked to my friends about this as well. I have noticed more and more often my friends are buying products that popped up on their social media pages and I am guilty of this as well. I have many items saved that I will then look up reviews elsewhere and potentially end up making that purchase. I would never know these brands or these items if they did not show up on my feed. They tend to show videos with "real people" using the product, or they show pretty imagery to make the product more attractive to the viewer.

The ads that annoy me are the ones that come up daily that I scroll by with absolutely no interest. You would think over time those ads would go away and they would curate new ones for my page. I have gotten to the point a few times where I have removed the ad myself and they then ask you why to which I say "I see this too often" they immediately reply with "you will never see this ad again." That has always been accurate, they never showcase the ad after I manually request them not to.

I feel that advertising done on social media is much more effective today than the ads in newspapers and magazines. From what I can remember, ads in magazines are typically luxury brands that no one necessarily reading the magazine can afford. I would see the same ads in magazines that I saw on billboards and although they always look pretty and professional it was unrealistic for most of the people looking at them to afford anything they were trying to sell. Social media ads are targeting the right people and they are prices that are affordable most of the time. Not many people in this generation are picking up a newspaper and looking through them when they can easily find any information they want on their cell phone.

Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-63927012860411630092020-11-26T13:21:00.001-08:002020-11-26T13:21:05.320-08:00Week 12
There are many amazing tools out there for businesses but it is important to keep in mind the ones that will be best for the particular business you have. I do not think every business needs to have all social media outlets because it can then get a bit confusing and overwhelming.

For my photography business, I think LinkedIn is a great outlet to connect with people in my area as well as look out for collaborations and those wanting to assist in photo shoots. I would love to be able to connect with locals who I could use as models for a shoot as well as find people who may want to work on a project together and they may have equipment that I do not own but would be a great contribution for a shoot. LinkedIn is also a great way to get a photography job and have people see my work and reach out to me. I could potentially get paid a lot of money for a job just by networking and connecting with the right people in my area.

When it comes to growing my business and receiving the right feedback, I feel that a website like Yelp could be useful for me. I feel that this is something I could incorporate after I have had more interaction with people or have done actual shoots for people. This is not the first social media outlet I would use but would gradually incorporate it over time. I would want people to be able to refer me to others or have new clients find me on there and read my reviews to see if I would be a good match for them.

Lastly, I feel another great source for me would be to join a Meetup group. These groups are specifically designed to meet with people who share the same interests as you and you can find other people in that industry to connect with. I feel that Meetup would have a ton of photographers in the area that I could learn from as well as collaborate with.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-42079202177487783752020-11-16T18:33:00.000-08:002020-11-16T18:33:46.607-08:00Week 11 Post 1
Hi Everyone!
I have recently been introduced to the world of Twitter and I am still trying to navigate through it. My brother and my dad are obsessed with Twitter and always seem to find the best insights just by following the right people. They have been using it a lot lately to share articles discussing politics and new information regarding the pandemic. My brother and dad are always sending me articles and most of the time I could not access them because I did not have an account so I recently decided it was time to start.

When my husband and I were in New York my brother had mentioned how he found out about this secret standup comedy show that was happening in the city the following night. My husband loves standup comedy and we could not believe some of the comedians that were going to be playing that night and for only twenty bucks. This is when I really saw how cool Twitter was because you were getting information instantly that could happen at any time. We were able to attend this amazing comedy show with comedians that can cost 200 dollars or more to see and we were in this intimate setting of about 30 people. It was one the highlights of our trip, all thanks to Twitter.

While I find Twitter to be a bit confusing still, I am starting to understand it more and learning how to follow the right people and navigate through it. There is so much information on Twitter that it can become overwhelming; thankfully I have my brother to give me the best tips!

LinkedIn is a website that I personally feel is fantastic for networking and one of the best to get to know people in your area or your industry. It is a great way to not only find a job, but to find other opportunities as well. For example, I love my current job and do not have any desire to leave but I use LinkedIn to find other opportunities that may come up involved in marketing, photoshoots, fashion, etc. I think it is a great way to expand your social circle and potentially find some amazing people to work with.

I have had a lot of people reach out to me on LinkedIn over the years with some of it being useful and then other times not as much. Either way, I see it as an awesome way to connect or reconnect with people that you may have not spoken to in a while. I like the way LinkedIn is organized by telling you who went to the same high school or college as you as well as the people who work at the same company as you or ones that are similar. They ask you for your interests as well as a tool to help you find what you are looking for. Overall, I think LinkedIn is definitely the best for all of those reasons.Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-56658832663992278452020-10-31T18:25:00.000-07:002020-10-31T18:25:06.739-07:00Week 10: Post 1
If I were to create a newsletter for my business I would have it sent out quarterly. I would want to send something out just enough times during the year to offer promotions, sales, and photo exhibits where people could take a look at my photography up close. I would want to promote my photography and show during those quarterly times I would want to show the new photographs I have taken and offer them to those who are interested.

Some of the information my business could use for a newsletter would be to offer seasonal discounts on some of my photography or doing some sort of promotion that encourages people who were interested before but may have not been able to purchase a print at the time. I would like to extend invites to have people come and view my photography, meet with me, and get a print sized and framed of their choice. I would love to see my photography in people's homes and would love to meet my potential customers and see what photos they show interest in versus those that may not have gravitated as much of an audience.

I believe it is really about putting my stuff out there, locally to get my name more known. I think having photo exhibits twice a year or even more at the right locations can really be beneficial for my business. I can also give people my business card that will offer them direct access to my social media platforms and my website, I can introduce an entirely different audience just by hosting these events.

I would not want to send out a ton of emails and be annoying, I would like to send a few to be on people's radar and introduce new photos I have taken that can be available for purchase. I want to engage but not be someone who is pushy where it turns my audience away.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-22525640902702948282020-10-31T18:05:00.001-07:002020-10-31T18:05:06.805-07:00Week 9 Post 2
In order to stay organized on my blog I would divide my photography into specific categories to gain the right interest. I take both film and digital photography and I like to specify that when I am captioning my photos. Some of my audience may be specifically interested in film photography and what film cameras I am using. Others may be interested in a digital photography and could be potentially interested in purchasing prints of those photos because they are a lot better for blowing up and framing. I also like to keep things organized by the place I am in at the time. I lived in Australia for two years so a lot my photos come from there and I like to differentiate that. I may categorize by California, New York, Sydney, etc. I want my audience to see places they are interested in going to and they can simply choose the city they want to see and learn about potential new travel locations.

I posted a photo of New York City on my social media this week, which is my favorite city to travel to. Some people may be looking for inspiration or a "wow" factor when they are scrolling. Posts can give off emotions that can be nostalgic for a viewer, something that takes them back to a great memory of a trip they went on, or somewhere they spent time with a loved one. Adding human interest of some kind will help bring viewers to that page because they want to see more of what made them feel good or inspired.

You should add a personal touch when you are trying to sell a product, or point of view to the target audience of your choice. This can be as much as selling products for animals and having the animals pose with the product with a big smile on their face, which will entice customers and make them smile. This may be a page they go to when they are wanting to see photos that will cheer them up because they love their animals and want the best product for them.

You do not need to add a personal touch if you are not necessarily trying to gain that type of attention from your audience. There can be filler posts here and there to create a balance on your social media page if that is a type of theme you are going for. It would be wise not to post content that would turn your audience off in anyway, or bring up negative feelings or emotions. It is important to stick with feel-good type of content when running a business on a social media platform.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-68298000223136986772020-10-21T19:49:00.004-07:002020-10-21T19:49:50.692-07:00Week 8 Post 2: Hashtags
I like to use hashtags that are specific to the photo, this includes where the photo is taken down to some of the colors that are in the photo. I typically use the following when posting one of my photos of nature:

#california (or wherever the photo is located) #outdoors #nature #naturephotography #landscape #landscapephotography #views #scenery #scenic #35mm #canonae1 #film #filmphotography (for film)

When I edit my photos I will incorporate a hashtag such as #lightroom or #vsco and when I do absolutely nothing to the photo I'll add #nofilter

Depending on the photo and where it is will depend on the other hashtags I end up using. I like to share the location and add hashtags that correlate with the specific photo.

I have found the hashtags I have used through a bit of research and also by searching what the top hashtags are. Some of my friends have also shared with me which ones seem to work best for them.

I always use hashtags that are specific to my business, and I like to be specific so I am gaining the right audience. I never use random ones that do not have anything to do with my photos.

I like to post in the evening because I feel people are off work and looking at their phones more often. Also, I lived in Australia and have followers from there plus I post a lot of photos from Australia so the later in the day over here is better because then people in Australia can see my photos as well.

I learned about a whole new variety of hashtags that correlate to what I am posting. I am looking forward to experimenting with them and seeing how they do with my photos. The new hashtags I want to try seemed to work very well for the photographers using them. There are a limit of hashtags you can use, so I want to try and figure out which ones will gain the most attention.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-64944320214179143882020-10-21T19:38:00.001-07:002020-10-21T19:38:19.738-07:00Week 8 Post 1: Visual Support
Courtney Cooper Photography (@courtcoopphoto) is all about visual representation. My business is my photography and Instagram is the perfect way to promote it. In my opinion, it is the best possible way to reach my audience. I have spent quite a bit of time looking at other photographers with similar styles to mine and what hashtags they use to get the largest audience possible. I have also conducted research on my own to find out what the top hashtags are, so I make sure I incorporate some of those. After doing some research and practicing on my photos, I have realized that the best hashtags are the ones that describe the photo. For example, if the photo is of a beach you would want to hashtag the following #beach #ocean #outdoors #nature and so on.

Even if you have a smaller following than other profiles, hashtags will generate many likes and help you gain a wider audience. @kaseymantiply is a photographer with 3,966 followers currently. She uses a wide variety of hashtags on her photos and because she photographs nature like I do. She does not post as often but receives about 300-500 likes on her pictures. I have looked at some of her posts to see which ones seem to work best. She uses hashtags such as #california #followmytravel #tourtheplanet #earthfocus etc. I usually use California when I post anything involving the state, but the other three hashtags are ones I have not used and want to try for my next post.

Another photographer is @withluke who has 311k followers. His photographs generate thousands of likes, and he has a great theme going on throughout his Instagram which is also important. He uses hashtags such as #welivetoexplore #folknature #letsgosomewhere #theoutbound etc. The hashtags he uses are more unique and I have never used them personally. These are other ones I would like to experiment with.

A photography page called @roamtheplanet has the most beautiful nature photos taken all over the world. They have 1.4 million followers and have their own personal hashtag #roamtheplanet so you can share your photos and they can possibly feature you on their page. Some of their other hashtags include #moodygrams #exploreourearth #mountainworld #earthoutdoors. They receive 10's of thousands of likes on their page, and I feel the hashtags they use are generating more interest in their photos. Their last post was four hours ago and already has 12,357 likes!

Lastly, another great nature photographer is @charlysavely. She takes wildlife photos and has created a business by creating a wildlife photography workshop that people can take. She is based in Alaska and has 324k followers. Her last post was one hour ago and has already generated 6,429 likes. The post is about how to get involved in her photo workshop and explains how she will teach you technique and editing skills to better your photography. Her hashtags include #girlswhotravel #wildlifewomen #travelgirl and #outdoorwomen.

All in all, these four profiles have gained a lot of attention by posting their photography on Instagram and using the right hashtags, I feel that this is probably the best way for each of them to put themselves out there and be as successful as possible. Using the right hashtags is definitely key, and I have learned an array of new ones just by searching pages with similar posts to mine. I think Instagram is the best social media outlet for photographers.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-50366312780210274242020-10-13T21:25:00.001-07:002020-10-13T21:25:05.431-07:00Week 7
Hi Everyone!

I wanted to start off by saying I love the Instagram profiles my group has created, they are all unique and each bring something different to the table.

I looked at/commented on the following Instagram accounts:

@theartjive_

@travel_guardian_

@juliasdessertscsit2020

@heatherwilliamshome.life.style

Instagram is a great way to promote business through photography and creating a theme/purpose of what you are trying to accomplish. The Art Jive does a fantastic job of being creative and working on different projects. She shows you through videos and photo shoots, which I feel is a great way to get your creativity out there. Travel Guardian is starting their page off with a theme that I can tell is going to be consistent throughout, this is a great way to keep your audience engaged. Julia's desserts shared a great video showing off her delicious baked goods which will attract customers by showing what she is selling. Heather Williams home life style shows ways to make your home more organised and structured without the stress and hassle, she has a beautiful color theme going on that is super attractive!

All these profiles were using different techniques to bring their customers in and get them excited for their brands, I feel they are all off to a great start!
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-38153426984602279782020-10-05T23:04:00.005-07:002020-10-05T23:04:57.618-07:00Week 6 Post B

Hi Everyone!

I am so excited for you all to see the three photo exhibits I created. Melanie Roberston Photography: I liked Melanie's page because she is a local photographer in Carlsbad. She seems to have a lot of interaction with people in our community and I figure at some point when I have built up my Facebook page I can possibly reach out to her for some networking opportunities.

2. National Geographic: I like to photograph nature and my travels, so Nat Geo is an obvious choice and one of my favorite magazines to follow. I like to get travel tips on places I may have never considered before, I also just love seeing their photos for inspiration.

3. Architectural Digest: This is my favorite magazine for inspiration for interior design. Although this is not something I particularly am interested in for taking photos myself, I love seeing the photography and the landscape of people's homes and the amazing ideas people come up with. I love the creativity people bring to the table!

4. Vogue: I majored in fashion merchandising and absolutely love Vogue magazine for all things fashion. I would love to photograph fashion at some point in my life, so vogue will always be an inspirational outlet for me.

5. Prada: Prada is one of my favorite fashion designers, and so I love to look at what their up to with the latest trends. They have an edgy way when it comes to their photography so I love seeing what they come up with next!

6. Earthpix: This is an account I have talked about in my prior blog posts, they are a super cool nature photography social media business. I would love to eventually get one of my photographs posted on their social media accounts to potentially put myself out there!

7. Nature & Wildlife: This is where my love of photography stems from, nature and wildlife, and so this is yet another page to just check out other photographers and find some cool places to travel or get inspiration.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-42975253453260259062020-10-01T19:16:00.001-07:002020-10-01T19:16:17.944-07:00Week 5 Post AHaving a business social media page is important because it allows you to introduce your audience as well as engage with them. Having social media allows you to engage with your audience through what you post. There are two factors involved with posting which are post reach and post engagement. Post reach shows how many people your post has reached out to by showing how many views an image or video has since it was posted. Post engagement is when your audience reacts to your post by liking or commenting o the image or video.

Knowing the difference between post reach and post engagement is important because you want to be aware of how your social media pages are doing and what interests your audience versus what does not. Paying attention to views for example shows that your audience may want to see more of something so you are really able to test and see what works for your business. Engagement in likes and comments is important too, people that are loving that particular image or video are most likely going to want to see more of that rather than another image that did not get the same attention. When someone shares your post it will be passed on further so it is very important to pay attention to what is working!

Facebook insights allows you to see performance per post and what is working for you. This is further broken down to give you better insight on what posts are doing well and what people are attracted to on your page. This will help because you need to be paying attention to your audience and their wants and needs. With the algorithm these days, you really want to be active on your social media pages so you do not end up disappearing on the timeline, Facebook insights can show you how to further engage properly.

I commented on The ArtJive's Facebook. I love the creativity and photography she has going on! Very unique.

Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-18377155814876108572020-09-22T18:33:00.000-07:002020-09-22T18:33:14.872-07:00Week 4 Part BHi Everyone!

Ever since I became interested in photography I have wanted to create a social media page to post my travels. My dad loves to travel, and I have been lucky enough to be able to travel the world with my family. My husband is from Australia, so I had the opportunity to live there for two years. It was then that I really fell in love with nature and everything surrounding me. I always took my camera places that I knew were going to have beautiful beaches, National parks, or wild animals.

My nickname is Coco, and my closest friends have been calling me that for years. For this class, I decided to create a new page called cocos__travels. I wish it didn't have the space in between but it is pretty tricky trying to have the name you want on social media these days. I am going to consider this a class project for now and see where it takes me. I just started this, so only six followers so far! Due to the pandemic, I have not been able to travel like I normally would so I do not have anything current to post so it will have to be posts from my previous travels. My personal account where I share a lot of my photography has 880 followers. As I had said in my last post I have always found it a challenge to get a ton of followers, so this new account could be a fun experiment!

My goal with having a travel photography page would be to ultimately have hotels or companies reach out to me to have them take photographs for them. I specifically would want hotels because I work for one and see the amazing perks when you have a huge following and what they will offer for a few pictures. My target market falls into that, companies who are looking for someone who can photograph landscape well and promote it for them.

My target market is also people who love photography, and who are interested in travel and would like to know more. I would love to interact with people and introduce them to places they may have not even thought to go to when travelling. My advice being where to hike, what beaches are worth seeing, and the best when it comes to nature and being outdoors. I also love recommending places to stay such as hotels, or places that are fun to camp! I want people to be able to see nature through my eyes and how I interpret it.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-33395955985162791482020-09-22T18:16:00.000-07:002020-09-22T18:16:11.651-07:00Week 4 Part A
Armstrong Garden Center has an attractive website with beautiful images of flowers and plants that immediately attracted me. The website has a lot of color and is quite vibrant. I love the concept of being able to order online especially during a pandemic where some people may not feel comfortable leaving their homes. This gives people the opportunity to still have beautiful plants. They also offer classes and events which is great for those wanting to learn more how to take care of their plants at home. The website also offers DIY and "how to help" links. I feel that these would be considered psychographics for customers, the offerings Armstrong provides are what many consumers are looking for when choosing where to purchase their product. There is ample amounts of information on their website and direct links to their social media for inspiration. I feel their target market could be anyone interested in plants or gardening as a hobby.

Rancho Vista Nursery is immediately attractive for San Diego residents because it there is one location and people love supporting small business. Their website is organized, and easy to read. Everything is located on one page rather than having several links. They specialize in cactus and succulents so this would be the perfect spot for consumers looking for those plants specifically. Their website is simple yet to the point which I know for many is something they look for when browsing through several websites at a time. Their social media is also linked to their homepage for inspiration. They offer events which allows people to meet other locals in their community and find people who have the same interests as them.

I feel the obvious when looking at these two websites is that one is a company many have already heard of and another one is a local business. The target market for both companies would be the same: people who have an interest in gardening or plants in general. There is definitely a crossover because the two companies are both plant companies that offer the same type of business. The obvious stand outs the websites have is that Armstrong has several links and tons of information while Rancho Vista Nursery is subtle and simple. Ranch specializes in cactus and succulents while Armstrong has several different kinds of plants and flowers. They both also have similar psychographics because gardening and flowers are an interest and a lifestyle for certain people. I feel when it comes to values is where they differ a bit; if someone is interested in supporting small business they will buy local, other people are interested in the big brands they've heard of and want more variety.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-44441949109272908342020-09-14T20:58:00.001-07:002020-09-14T20:58:41.482-07:00Week 3 Part BHi Everyone,

This post is going to be a challenging one for me. To be completely honest, building a brand has been something that I have been struggling with for quite some time. This is something that I want to do, and I feel I have the right idea of how to eventually get there but I also feel that I may not be doing it right. My issue is that I feel so many things I would like to do have already been done, or the competition is too much. My hobbies would be considered popular ones so I struggle with that quite a bit. I would love to incorporate my love of photography and fashion into something, but I am not sure what my message is or how I would differentiate myself from others.

I would like to write this post as if I did have a brand or idea in mind and how I would like to get there. My first step would be to have a purpose for this brand and why I went this direction. I believe you have to be passionate about your brand or your business or else it will most likely fail. I may overthink this process to a point that I can't figure out how I'd like to brand myself. I feel there needs to be a purpose behind your brand, and I feel your audience should know a bit about yourself and how you got there. I want to be able to intrigue people, and get people having conversations. I'd love to have a platform where I would be able to communicate with my audience.

Standing out is important, so when I decide to create a social media page I would like to have a logo or something more professional for my profile photo. I want my audience to be drawn to something that looks like a professional brands business page, and I want to have a biography that captivates the right audience as well. First impressions are so important, you only have a few seconds to grab someones attention before they are on to the next brand. I would want to have a theme that continues throughout my social media page, using the same filter or using similar colors to keep my theme balanced and cohesive.

My challenge as I stated above is feeling that I may not be doing this right. I have had a personal social media for years, and have gained very little attention on it. This has made me lose confidence in myself because I do feel I take good photos for the little experience I have with my cameras. I use hashtags, I follow accounts that I'm inspired by, and yet I see very little activity on my page. This is where I really need the right guidance before I take the next step of creating a business social media page. Another thing I have tried posting at times other people are on as well and it seems my photos get lost in the algorithm.

I would love to hear from people and figure out their tips for how they started their brand and how they differentiated themselves from everyone else on social media. I would like to come up with a creative name (such a struggle for me) and then eventually have my brand take off. This is something I think about constantly, and that is why this post is a hard one to type.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-86308668087329791812020-09-11T17:39:00.001-07:002020-09-11T17:39:25.194-07:00Blog Post Week 3
https://jamilin.com

The first thought when I saw this website was that I felt it was a scam. It looks like a bunch of random ads that are squished together making it confusing and hard to even understand what this website is for. The layout is super messy and the font is pretty small. I do not see this as a professional website by any means, a lot of work needs to be done in order to make this website more attractive. There is so much confusion when I look at this website, I feel there is way too much going on and that is what makes it look so unprofessional. I feel to improve this website there would need to be an actual layout and some organization. There needs to be a purpose for her brand, which I do not see. I feel with a more structured layout and way less advertising this website would make more sense.

http://gatesnfences.com

This website is so overkill, there are too many colors, fonts, and font sizes. I understand what this website is unlike the previous one, but the structure is awful. The photographs showing the gates and the fencing are far too small and they look like they were just copied and pasted in random areas of the website. It looks as though they just pasted it all together and had no time to align anything or finish it off properly. I do not find this website professional, it seems like someone threw it together and did not care at all. The amount of links, colors, and fonts is stressful to even look at and I would not know where to even begin. If I were looking for this service personally I would take one look at this website and exit out. In order to improve this website there needs to be a ton of condensing. They need to not have so many links and start to find similar ones to each other and condense the information into a few categories. They need to focus on a theme and maybe one or two colors that make sense together. Their photos need to be in a gallery section where they are more clear to the eye and the consumer can get an idea of what they can do.

https://artcenter.org

This website has great organization. It is visually pleasing to the eye and you can see exactly what the purpose of this website is. I like how they categorize events and you can click on each one for more info if you are interested. I also like the featured event at the top page that sort of stands out amongst the rest because it is the next upcoming one they want to showcase. This website is very professional, and has great structure. It is laid out in a way that makes sense, as I look at it I am interested to see what they have to offer. The design of the website is inviting and interesting to me, I think it's great how everything is categorized.

https://www.apple.com

This website is super clean and minimalistic which I love. It is very to the point and the photos of the product are clear and bright. This website is professional and is viewed by so many people around the world so it is important they stick with their brand and promoting their product to their consumers. The layout is easy to read and understand. I like their use of design off of their photos, they expand their product so you can clearly see all of the features they are offering on their phones and computers. They discuss everything that will be included in the newest featured product as well. This is something that will attract their consumers and keep them wanting to upgrade their technology.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-71341290830060288302020-09-08T20:12:00.004-07:002020-09-08T20:12:56.376-07:00Blog Post Week 2
National Geographic

https://www.nationalgeographic.com

National Geographic is a magazine that showcases amazing photography from all over the world. The owner of Earth Pix has created a few other major social media accounts and he is offering to help others do the same and show them how.

Earth Pix is an Instagram account, although they do use Twitter and Facebook as well. They have 16.9 million followers on Instagram and their last post was around 1 pm today.

The owner of this account, Eric is very active on this social media page. He interacts a lot with other social media users who are looking to grow their accounts. He started this account to show dream travel destinations to his followers and it continued to grow from there. Their last post was around 3 pm on Instagram and at 7 pm on Twitter.

Vogue is not as interactive with their followers as the other brands I mentioned. They are very active and post often but I rarely see them replying to other commenters or featuring people's accounts. They are very particular in who they are posting and that usually means it will be a well known person in the industries they feature.

Park Hyatt

https://www.hyatt.com/brands/park-hyatt

Park Hyatt is apart of the international chain of Hyatt Hotels. Park Hyatts are considered the luxury of the Hyatt chain and are typically a Forbes rated 5 star or 4 star hotel. Their brand is all about providing the best possible customer service to their guests.

Park Hyatt hotels have their own Instagram account allowing people to see what Hyatt hotels are the most luxurious when planning their next vacation. Their Instagram account has 103 thousand followers. This account is a bit harder to find in the search engine as each Park Hyatt has their own personal Instagram. The last time they posted was today around 10 am today. They also do not post as often as the other accounts, usually every few days rather than everyday.

Park Hyatt's Instagram account does a good job with interacting with their followers. They welcome positive comments and let people know they are looking forward to having them stay at their resort. They post photographs of the resorts that are all within the Park Hyatt chain so followers can see what each individual hotel has to offer them in terms of luxury.

I chose these five brands because I have spent a lot of time looking at all of them over the years and I would love to be in the photography industry. I have a love for travel, fashion, and interior design so these accounts are my absolute favorite to follow. I work for Park Hyatt so that is why I chose that as my fifth brand because before the pandemic I was helping a bit with their social media pages. These five accounts are the most inspirational to me based off their content and how they've all grown such a huge following. They have created these brands and continue to have them grow by interacting on social media almost daily.

The research I conducted showed me how much work it takes to have multiple social media platforms and how often you have to post in order to stay relevant. These accounts are posting 3 or more times a day typically and have it spread out in a strategic way. I notice they will usually have these posts spread out by several hours of each other. I also love how some of the brands want to help their followers by featuring them on their pages. This is giving people amazing opportunities to grow their own brand and they can have the potential to make a career out of it.

All of the brands I have chosen are International, so they have a much wider audience to attract to. I believe this is a great advantage being that people from all over the world are able to follow these accounts and are aware of what they are. I feel that local brands or national brands do not have as much exposure so it is even more important that local brands are really interacting with their followers and posting multiple times a day to be on their followers feeds.

Overall, the most profound part of my research was seeing how often these brands post and the time of day they post. Most posts were at 3 pm today (Tuesday) and I find that to be very interesting. These accounts are clearly strategic when it comes to posting to get the most attention. I feel that timing really does come into play when posting on one of these platforms, especially Instagram. I have tested it myself and have personally seen how a photo can do poorly or can do amazing just based on time alone. There are a few factors to this, one being that it is a weekday and later in the afternoon when many people could be on break from work and are scrolling at that time. I have always posted in the evening for that exact purpose of knowing people would be off work and at home relaxing and looking through social media.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-30994901403467866442020-09-04T13:33:00.001-07:002020-09-04T13:33:47.081-07:00Week 2 Post 1
Social media has become an integral part of communicating with businesses because it is instant. Once something has been posted or published, it is available to the public within seconds. This allows communication to be done faster than previous types of communication in the past. Normally, businesses would use email and phone calls as a type of communication/advertising or marketing their business with billboards, magazine ads, newspaper ads, etc. These techniques are still used today and will grab people's attention, but social media spreads the business promotions to a bigger audience. It is also less costly to run a social media page and be able to have that free marketing. Marketing can be extremely expensive for a business, this way of communicating is much more cost efficient. Typically, companies now have hired a specific team to run their social media pages. This career involves reading all comments and feedback and replying in a short amount of time. If there are issues, companies have someone respond to the comment as quickly as possible and ask them to personally reach out via a direct message so they can communicate and solve the issue from there. This is also time efficient for businesses, sometimes a phone call or email complaint can take days to get the issue solved. These new ways of communicating and solving problems through social media makes it much easier on the company as well as the consumer for a positive experience.

If I am extremely happy with a purchase I will write positive feedback in order for other consumers to see that this a product worth purchasing. Something that I like about reviewing product especially clothing is when you see other people wearing the product and seeing how it fits. I have not personally done this but I think it is a great way to see it on another body type. With the social media businesses I follow, I always like their photos and will sometimes leave a nice comment expressing what I like about the photo. I do not leave negative comments on a social media page, if I have had a bad experience purchasing something I do not feel that is going to solve the issue for me personally. I prefer to email or speak to someone or go into that specific store to deal with the problem.

If I were to have my own social media page for a business I would try and respond to as many comments as possible. I think it is really important to engage with your customers regardless if it is positive or negative. I have worked in customer service/hospitality for over ten years so I would do my best to recover the situation. I would apologize for the bad experience, I would reach out to them personally rather than have a conversation in the comment section. I would respond with gratitude to those who were happy with their purchases, and thank them for their support. I think consumers appreciate when they are acknowledged, it makes them feel good that a company had the time to respond to them personally.
Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-210964768966705939.post-72813832056214041842020-09-01T14:48:00.004-07:002020-09-01T14:48:44.827-07:00Week 1 Part BI am in Group 3

I am really excited about my group, I feel that everyone has a lot to bring to the table! I also thought this photo had a vintage feel to it which makes it a little more unique than the average beach photo. This theme was included in the travel section which immediately attracted me because I love to travel. This theme has all of my favorite things, the beach, photography, and travel all in one!

My favorite hobby is photography, I love the memories it creates. I take both film and digital photography. I became interested when my dad passed down his Canon AE-1 film camera from the 70's. Since then I have taken that camera on every trip I go. I love film because you never know what you are going to get when your photos are developed, I like the surprise and sometimes photos are blurry or off center but that is what I love about it. Digital photography is also great because you get beautiful crisp and clean photos and you can see what you just took. I like to photograph nature and my travels, so both types of cameras take amazing photographs.

Social media involves a lot of photography and that is what makes it so interesting to me. The accounts I follow include travel, fashion, and interior design. I like following accounts that inspire me and have a ton of creativity. I think it's great how we can share our photos and people from all over the world are able to view them, it is a great way to interact with others and find people who have similar interests that you do.

Instagram and Facebook are great tools for personal use. Instagram you can share your own content and it can be photos of you and your friends having a good time, it's a great way to share what you are doing and connect with friends and family. Facebook is great because it involves more writing and sharing with friends and family. Both Instagram and Facebook have personal messaging as well to interact with your friends and followers.

Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are great for business use. Instagram is a great way to promote a business by using hash tags to gain more attention and for following people in your community to get your voice out there. Instagram can be used for a lot of promotional reasons by posting messages and photos to grab attention. Twitter is great for sharing content in more of a written form and for sharing information about your business. Facebook is a great business tool for advertising, there are ways to create ads that will go to Facebook pages that have interest in the business you have. From there people can click a direct link towards your website for more information.

Courtney Cooperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16236160963542554031noreply@blogger.com13
